International Week of the Deaf is an initiative of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and it is celebrated by the global deaf community every year during the last full week of September (18 - 24), culminating with International Day of the Deaf on the last Sunday of the week.
There is a lot of activities, planned marches through some cities, exhibitions, various meetings, seminars, debates and campaigns to raise awareness about the deaf community at individual, community and government level to promote the rights of deaf people.
OBJECTIVES OF WORLD DEAF DAY:
To promote understanding among people about the problems deaf people face in the community
To draw the attention of the general public, countries politicians and developmental authorities towards the achievements of deaf people as well as deaf people’s worldwide community
To promote the human rights of deaf people regarding equal access to education and modern technologies
Participate in celebrating World Deaf Day
