Are you (semi)retired? Share your life experiences!

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

The beginning of a new year is the perfect time to make life-improving decisions and set up new challenges.

If you are retired, or semi-retired and you want to fill your spare time by volunteering, then welcome, you're in the right place!

Volunteer BSL - Improve Skills

At Deaf Umbrella we run a Job Club to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing people to engage with employment activities, and we are currently looking for people (deaf or hearing) to join us on this project to assist deaf people on every step of the way of their pre-employment journey.

SKILLS NEEDED

You should have excellent communication skills and a minimum of Level 2 BSL.

YOUR TASKS

A great opportunity to share your life experience while supporting employment activities in a deaf-friendly environment.

LOCATION AND TIME

Our Job Club runs on Tuesdays from 1 to 4pm and Fridays from 10am to 1pm from our Deptford office. The candidates will cover 2 hours per week (although we will be more than happy to have you as long as you desire!).

DO YOU WANT TO GET INVOLVED?

OUR VOLUNTEERS EXPRESS THEIR EXPERIENCES

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering at the job club. Staff at Deaf Umbrella are very welcoming and friendly and it has been a great experience to be a part of their team. Providing practical support for clients has been interesting and rewarding and has given me an opportunity to improve my BSL skills.” Liz P.

“Volunteering with the Deaf Umbrella CIC has been a great way for me to put my BSL skills into practice and gainconfidence communicating with BSL users. Having such a clear focus is really great as sometimes making ‘small talk’ at the Deaf pub or social can be really hard work. At the job club it feels like I’m able to genuinely help people while improving my signing at the same time - win win! Louise, Rachel and the whole team are also really friendly and welcoming which makes it a lovely place to volunteer.” Jenni E.
