Deaf Awareness at the Poppy Factory: A Memorable Visit

Recently, Deaf Umbrella had the pleasure of delivering a Deaf Awareness Training session at the renowned Poppy Factory—and what a fantastic experience it was! From the warm welcome to the enthusiastic participation of the team, it was clear this organisation values inclusion and accessibility at its core.

The session was met with such positivity! Attendees described it as:

  • "Informative and useful"

  • "10/10 – very well presented; very good pace and content"

  • "Very interesting and engaging"

One participant mentioned leaving the session “wanting to learn more,” which is the best feedback anyone delivering a session could hope for! Another highlighted how much they appreciated the chance to try headphones simulating hearing aids—it's those moments of insight that stick with people and create real change in attitudes.

Why Deaf Awareness Matters

We believe Deaf Awareness Training isn’t just about learning facts; it’s about seeing the world through someone else’s eyes (or ears, in this case). At the Poppy Factory, we explored how small changes can make a huge difference for Deaf colleagues and customers—whether it's adapting communication styles, using technology, or simply understanding the barriers that exist.

The Poppy Factory team was incredibly open and eager to learn. Their engagement left us feeling hopeful about the steps businesses are taking to create more inclusive workplaces.
